I have written many vocal compositions and all of them have theatrical quality. It includes 30-minute comic chamber opera The Wedding Gift of Pirate Granny (libretto by David Johnston, on YouTube), 37-minute cantata Songs for Lada (performed and recorded by the Michigan State University Children’s choir and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under Leonard Slatkin’s direction, released on Naxos CD “American Classics” 2012; three awards-winning compositions for tenor and ensemble, including solo cantata Majnun Songs (includes Arabic dancer, poetry by a 7th century Bedouin poet Majnun), humorous "Jewish" song cycle Mother Said (poetry by Hal Sirowitz), and cycle Merry Hour (poetry by classical Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov). Two first compositions appear on my chamber disk “Pinsk & Blue” (Albany Records 2007), recorded by the Naumburg Award winning U.S. ensemble Da Capo Chamber Players under my direction. All three tenor and ensemble pieces are on Vimeo. I have several extended compositions for choir, including The Ballad of Barnaby (poetry by W.H. Auden, on YouTube), vocal cycles, arias (not from operas), ensembles, etc. I hope to find new presentations for my chamber opera, which would fit well a program of short operas. The three tenor & ensemble pieces (practically mini-operas) would work well as a project. I also plan to write an opera, which would work well for youth and family audiences (and for other audience as well). I hope to meet librettists, to connect with old and new friends, and learn more about current contemporary operatic field in the U.S. and beyond.
