Composer Germaine Franco is a Toulmin Grant Award Winner for the upcoming opera ¡La Capitana!, which illuminates the lives of las soldaderas, the women who fought alongside the revolutionaries during the Mexican Revolution. Currently in production with librettists Nancy de Los Santos Reza, Alejandra Martinez, dramaturge Suzanna Guzman, and co-producer Joshua Guerrero.
Germaine is the first Latina composer invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science’s Music Branch. She is a songwriter, song producer, and additional Composer of Pixar*Disney's COCO, for which she won an Annie Award. The New Line film TAG, currently in theaters, features her recent score, available on Lakeshore Records.
Germaine is a frequent guest artist and speaker who encourages equity in the arts. Her recent speaking engagements include Columbia University, Columbia College Chicago, The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, and Brown University.
In addition to composing, Franco performs as a percussionist with international orchestras including the Belgian Radio Orchestra, The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, The Academy Orchestra, The World Orchestra, and the Spoleto Festival Orchestra.
