John Mauceri has taken a leadership role in editing, restoring, and performing two American art forms: the Broadway musical and the music composed by refugee composers who fled WWII and settled on the West Coast, including those who composed for films. He is the former music director of four opera companies: Washington (National), Scottish Opera, Teatro Regio (Turin), and Pittsburgh Opera, and is the recipient of a Tony, a Grammy, an Olivier, a Billboard, three Emmys, and various European awards for his many recordings. His book, Maestros and Their Music—the Art and Alchemy of Conducting, was recently published by Alfred A. Knopf.
