Hailed for possessing a voice of extraordinary beauty, a seamless legato and great dramatic depth, American soprano Karen Slack was most recently heard as Anna in Le Villi with Scottish Opera, Alice Ford in Falstaff with Arizona Opera, Aida with Austin Opera, Donna Anna with Nashville Opera, Serena in Porgy and Bess with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Sydney Symphony Australia, and the University of Michigan, Emelda Griffith in Champion with New Orleans Opera and Sister Rose in Dead Man Walking at Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Kentucky Opera, Minnesota Opera and Vancouver Opera. The 18/19 season will see her on the stage as Micäela in Carmen with Mill City Summer Opera, Addie Parker in Charlie Parker’s Yardbird with Arizona Opera, Sister Rose in Dead Man Walking with Atlanta Opera, Tosca with Opera Birmingham, Serena in Porgy and Bess with Ft. Worth Opera and as Billie in the world premiere of Terence Blanchard’s next opera Fire Shut Up In My Bones with Opera Theater of St. Louis.

An active recitalist and equally at home in the concert repertoire, Ms. Slack has been seen in recital across the United States including Gibraltar, Spain, Munich, Germany and Toruń Poland, with upcoming recitals this season n Philadelphia, Ft. Worth, TX, Monroe, NC and with National Music Festival in Chestertown, MD. She has appeared in concert with Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco, Cincinnati, Phoenix, Colorado Symphonies and made her Carnegie Hall debut in a concert version of Tchaikovsky’s Maid of Orleans she has been most recently seen in Verdi Requiem with the South Bend Symphony and Madison Symphony, Beethoven 9th with both Quad City Symphony and Back Bay Chorale Boston, St. Matthew’s Passion with the Messiah Festival of the Arts and in Mahler Symphony No.2 with both Lexington Philharmonic and Latvian National Symphony. Additionally, Ms Slack has portrayed a feature role in Tyler Perry’s motion picture and soundtrack “For Colored Girls” as the Opera Diva. A native of Philadelphia, a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Adler Fellowship at the San Francisco Opera, Ms. Slack has won numerous competitions and awards: including the Montserrat Caballe International Competition, George London Award, Liederkranz Award, Marian Anderson ICON Award, MONC Finalist and the Jose Iturbi International Competition for Voice.
