Praised by the New York Times for his imaginative staging, Walker Lewis' upcoming and recent work includes the Apprentice Scenes at Santa Fe Opera in 2015, THE THREEPENNY OPERA (Amarillo Opera), THE COMPANION (American Opera Projects/American Modern Ensemble), THE CASK OF AMONTILLADO by Stewart Copeland & THE WHOLE TRUTH by Robert Paterson and Mark Campbell (AME), LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Manhattan Opera Studio), and Schutz’s CHRISTMAS ORATORIO (Musica Nuova and THE WECKMANN PROJECT).

His recent productions of TAMAR DA TIMNA and IL CAMPANELLO (Garden State Opera), LA CLEMENZA DI TITO (dell’Arte Opera Ensemble) and RADAMISTO (Manhattan Opera Studio) have also garnered critical acclaim.

Walker was hailed by The New York Times for his production of Monteverdi’s IL BALLO DELLE INGRATE at (le) Poisson Rouge, which was featured in The New Yorker and streamed live worldwide. WATER MUSIC, his collaboration with The Vertical Player Repertory, featured condensations of THE TALES OF HOFFMAN, IL TABARRO and A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE. Other collaborations include Pocket Opera, Concordia Conservatory and Featherstone Center for the Arts. He also worked with Andrei Serban on Verdi’s OTELLO at the Paris Bastille Opera, starring Renee Fleming and Alexander Antonenko.

Walker and his creative team of David Meyer (Scenic Design) and Grace Trimble (Costume Design) won the Tobin Director-Designer Showcase grant from Opera America in 2013 for his concept of RISE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF MAHAGONNY.

Walker is passionate about creating new and innovative operas, and has developed several recent new works with composers Nizan Leibovich, Robert Paterson, and Francesco Santelli. Past music theater world premieres include work with composers Matt Van Brink, Colin McGrath, Rami Vamos, and Zach Layton.

Walker trained at Oberlin Conservatory, the Lecoq School in Paris, and at Columbia University with Andrei Serban, Anne Bogart, Kristin Linklater, Peter Brook and Robert Wilson. Walker is a regular contributor to the Indie Opera Podcast at indieopera.com where he engages with composers, librettists and other artists in the opera world.
